Brvenica Votes on Sunday: Six Mayoral Candidates, Biometric ID Devices and a Possible Runoff on November 1
The early mayoral election in Brvenica is on October 18, after the death of the previous mayor; the State Election Commission has prepared the ballot, voting instructions and the identification devices.
The Municipality of Brvenica holds an early mayoral election on October 18, after the death of mayor Ivica Ilievski on June 23, at age 58. The State Election Commission (DIK) received six candidate lists: Jovica Radeski (coalition led by SDSM), Jakup Useini (VLEN), Stojancho Radicheski (the “Your Macedonia” coalition), Arkin Jahiji (National Alliance for Integration) and independent candidates Arife Idrizi and Dushan Bogdanovski.
DIK set the content and security features of the ballot, which will be in Macedonian and Cyrillic, in the language and script used by at least 20% of the municipality’s citizens and in the language of the candidates’ community. At its 20th session on October 13 it adopted voting instructions and decisions on operational preparation, including delivery of the biometric voter identification devices. Voting for people in pretrial detention or serving sentences is organized by the municipal election commissions in Gazi Baba, Tetovo and Shtip. Observers from IFES and an association from Skopje have been accredited.
A runoff, if needed, is scheduled for November 1. The articles we checked do not explain what happens if the identification devices stall, or how many voters the municipality has, so it is worth following DIK’s announcements on election day for those questions.
