Marko Dzhorlev of Shtip Is World Karate Champion for Cadets: Five Wins to Gold in Poland

Macedonian karateka Marko Dzhorlev won the gold medal in the up to 63 kilograms category at the World Championship for cadets, juniors and under-21s in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.

Macedonia has a world karate champion. Marko Dzhorlev, a karateka from Shtip, won the gold medal in the cadets up to 63 kilograms category at the World Championship for cadets, juniors and under-21s held from October 14 to 18 in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. More than 2,000 karatekas from 114 countries are taking part in the championship.

Dzhorlev reached gold with five wins and an overall score of 34:8. In his first bout he beat Alejandro Pérez of Cuba 10:6, then José Andrés García of Guyana 6:1 and Leons Akopovs of Latvia 6:0. In the semifinal he overcame Jan Mata of Panama 8:0, and in the final Adam Bagi of Hungary 4:1.

The result is all the more significant because competition is strong: thousands of competitors from almost every continent are gathered in one championship, and in the up to 63 kilograms category every win is a win over opponents from different karate schools. How many countries had competitors in his category is not stated in the reports we checked.

The reports do not mention his coach and club, nor the results of other Macedonian karatekas at this championship, so we make no assessment of that. The championship runs until October 18, and the official results and the medals of other Macedonian competitors will be known once the competition ends.
