Fati Vejseli Secures At Least Silver at Mediterranean Games in Taranto

The Macedonian wrestler beat Turkey's Yasin Yesil in the freestyle -74kg semifinal, guaranteeing the delegation's first medal of the Games and advancing to the final.

Macedonian wrestler Fati Vejseli has secured at least a silver medal at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, after beating Turkey's Yasin Yesil 5:3 in the freestyle -74kg semifinal this afternoon.

The win over his Turkish opponent sends Vejseli straight into the final, where he'll compete for the title and gold medal. This is the first guaranteed medal for the Macedonian delegation at this edition of the Games, and it comes in a discipline with a strong track record for the country — wrestling has historically been one of the sports that most often brought Macedonia medals at previous Mediterranean Games.

A Delegation in Full Swing

Vejseli's result comes alongside competitions across several other sports where Macedonian athletes continue their campaigns. Fencers Damjanovski and Bundalevski have already won two bouts each in their respective groups in the Games' opening days, keeping themselves in contention for the later rounds.

Vejseli's final bout, where he'll compete for gold, is scheduled for the coming days — MKNews Hub will follow the result and the full course of Macedonia's participation until the Games close on September 3.
