Skopje and Ohrid Airports See Passenger Numbers Surge Past 2.4 Million
28 new flight destinations have been added across the two airports this year, including a new direct route from Skopje to Paris.
Skopje and Ohrid airports are seeing strong growth in passenger traffic this year — more than 2.4 million passengers passed through the two airports in the first seven months of 2026, a VMRO-DPMNE lawmaker announced today at a press conference.
According to the announcement, a total of 28 new flight destinations have been introduced across the two airports — a significant expansion of direct international connections. New direct flights from Skopje include Paris, among other European destinations, widening options for residents traveling for work, tourism or visiting family in the diaspora.
A Boost for Residents and Tourism
The expanded destination network is expected to bring a double benefit — easier and cheaper access for domestic travelers to more European cities without layovers, and easier access for foreign visitors coming to Macedonia, directly supporting the tourism sector.
The growth in passenger traffic aligns with a broader trend of increased air connectivity for the country over recent years, and officials say further expansion of the destination network remains a priority.
