Marathon Record Holder Ivanovski Leads Macedonia's Athletics Push in Taranto

With the Games entering their final week, attention turns to the athletics program as Macedonia sits at five medals overall.

With the Mediterranean Games in Taranto now in their final week, Macedonian attention turns to the athletics program, where Dario Ivanovski, the national marathon record holder, is competing.

Ivanovski is part of a broader athletics contingent within the delegation, which also includes Anastasija Mojsovska in shooting and Nikola Đuretanović in swimming, alongside wrestlers Vladimir Egorov and Magomedgadži Nurov, who already have experience from previous editions of the Games. Nurov, worth remembering, was one of two athletes who won Macedonia's historic first gold medal at the Mediterranean Games, in Oran 2022.

A Mix of Experience and Youth

The 130-member delegation combines proven names with a new generation of athletes — the youngest member is tennis player Sara Mitevska, while the most experienced is Luka Založnik in equestrian sport. That combination, the Macedonian Olympic Committee says, is key to the long-term development of Olympic sports in the country.

With the current tally at five medals (two silvers, three bronzes), every remaining performance before the Games close on September 3 carries the chance to add to the count, and athletics remains a discipline where surprises are still possible.
