Diesel Drops 4.5 Denars From Midnight — North Macedonia Among the Region's Cheapest Fuel Markets
The energy regulator announced new fuel prices — diesel down, gasoline slightly up — against the backdrop of the extended 10% reduced VAT rate on fuel, in place until October 12.
North Macedonia's Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission has announced new fuel prices effective from midnight. A liter of diesel drops by 4.5 denars, while gasoline grades see a slight increase of about one denar per liter. Prices for household heating oil and heavy fuel oil are also falling.
The change comes as the government's reduced 10% VAT rate on fuel — instead of the standard 18% — remains in effect through October 12, a measure aimed at easing inflationary pressure on transport and goods movement. According to comparative data from regional fuel markets, North Macedonia currently ranks among the countries with the lowest diesel prices in the Balkans.
The lower diesel price directly benefits transport companies and farmers, who rely heavily on the fuel during the autumn transport and land-cultivation season. Analysts caution that further price movements will depend on global oil markets, which have been under pressure in recent weeks amid tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
