€500 for Makedonium: Director Resigns as Mickoski Demands the Entire Board Be Removed
Following a Kosovar rapper's music video filmed at the memorial complex, the director of the Historical Museum in Krushevo has resigned, while the prime minister has demanded the entire board be removed, calling the episode 'unacceptable.'
Following a wave of public reaction after parts of Kosovar rapper Don Xhoni's music video were filmed at "Makedonium" for roughly €500, the director of the Historical Museum in Krushevo, the institution responsible for the memorial complex, has resigned. Prime Minister Christijan Mickoski reacted sharply, calling what happened "unacceptable" and announcing he would request the dismissal of both the director and the entire Management Board that same day.
Culture Minister Zoran Sulejmani said the case is "sensitive" and that the legal aspects of the rental would be reviewed, while an on-site inspection found that Makedonium's management had allegedly installed metal fencing on the premises without the required permit. Rapper Don Xhoni said following the backlash that he had no intention of offending anyone with the shoot.
The €500 rental case — which followed an earlier report of a citizen seeking to rent the space for a birthday celebration — raises the broader question of the absence of a clear rulebook for commercial use of nationally significant monuments, an issue that, following the resignation and the announced dismissal, remains on the table for future leadership of such institutions.
