The 2030 Membership Map: Decision Versus Speech
SDSM leader Venko Filipche claims four countries — Albania, Montenegro, Ukraine and Moldova — have a clear EU membership roadmap by 2030, with North Macedonia left out, accusing the government of leading the country into a 'dead end.'
SDSM leader Venko Filipche has claimed that four countries — Albania, Montenegro, Ukraine and Moldova — have a clear roadmap to EU membership by 2030, while "North Macedonia isn't there." He summed up the moment: "By 2030, the door to Europe is open, member states will become Albania, Montenegro, Ukraine and Moldova. We are not there."
Filipche criticized Prime Minister Christijan Mickoski's position on protecting the country's name, language, culture and identity, arguing these are already guaranteed through international agreements. He warned that continuing isolationist policies would lead to poverty and emigration, and called on Mickoski to reconsider his approach ahead of European Commission President von der Leyen's planned visit.
It's important to distinguish what here is an actual EU decision from what is opposition political speech — the four countries are indeed mentioned in reports on fast-track roadmaps being prepared in Brussels, but the precise 2030 deadlines have not yet been formally adopted at the EU level. Asked about Tsar Samuel's remains, Filipche avoided comment, saying historians should address such matters while political focus remains on the country's future direction.
