Same Day: Minister Opens Day Center in Kochani, While 'Gazda Deko' Gets New Detention Over Bribery

Minister Velkovski opened the 'Prolet' day center for people with disabilities in Kochani, while disco owner Dejan Jovanov, known as 'gazda Deko,' received a new 30-day detention order in a separate bribery probe tied to the Ministry of Economy.

Labor and Social Policy Minister Fatmir Velkovski officially opened the "Prolet" day center for people with disabilities in Kochani, a facility intended for daytime care, rehabilitation activities and social support for people with disabilities and their families in the municipality. The opening was presented as an expansion of the social services network outside the capital.

The same day, in a separate and unrelated investigation, disco owner Dejan Jovanov, publicly known as "gazda Deko" from an earlier drug-trafficking case tied to his venue, received a new 30-day detention order. This time it concerns a distinct bribery investigation linked to the Ministry of Economy, not the same case already proceeding through criminal trial with hundreds of witnesses.

The coincidence of the two stories landing on the same day — a positive social-policy announcement alongside the continuation of a corruption probe against the same individual — illustrates the contrast between institutional communications on social policy and the parallel course of criminal investigations, which proceed independently of the government's communications calendar.
