Karanfilova vs Miloshoski: Is the Block in Skopje or in Sofia
'Macedonia is blocked by Mickoski and VMRO-DPMNE,' says Karanfilova-Panovska, while Miloshoski responds that 'the Constitution isn't a can of fish you open whenever you feel like it' — two diametrically opposed readings of the same blockade.
Former minister Bisera Karanfilova-Panovska said "Macedonia is blocked by Mickoski and VMRO-DPMNE," accusing the ruling party of refusing to implement the constitutional amendments needed to continue EU negotiations. MP Antonio Miloshoski replied that "the Constitution isn't a can of fish you open whenever you feel like it," defending the position that constitutional changes shouldn't be forced through without broad consensus.
The gap between the two sides isn't just tactical — it also concerns where the real obstacle actually lies. Miloshoski himself said in another statement that the probability of a meeting in Sofia "isn't small, and it's good if it happens," while Karanfilova-Panovska insists that "meetings in Sofia aren't about unblocking the process, but about an additional blockade — we already have a negotiating framework, there's no need for a meeting."
This contradiction shows just how complex the picture really is: whether the key obstacle is internal (constitutional amendments in parliament) or external (the bilateral dispute with Bulgaria), and whether an additional meeting helps or merely drags things out. For citizens, the end result is the same — the EU process remains blocked, and the two sides can't even agree on where the root of the problem actually lies.
