Clocks Go Back on October 25: Why the EU Still Has Not Ended Clock Changes Seven Years After the Vote
On the night between October 24 and 25 clocks go back from 03:00 to 02:00; summer time returns on March 28, 2027, and ending the clock changes has been stalled since 2019.
Winter time begins on October 25, 2026. On the night between October 24 and 25, at 03:00, clocks go back to 02:00, so we sleep an hour longer. Winter time lasts until March 28, 2027, when summer time returns. Macedonia applies the same rule as the EU — the last weekend of March and of October.
The European Parliament voted in 2019 to end clock changes, with a planned start in 2021. Since then the matter has stood still: member states have not agreed on whether to keep permanent summer or permanent winter time. The published schedule does not guarantee that the changes will continue until 2031, since the EU could end the system earlier.
Until then we will keep moving the clocks twice a year. A practical tip: devices with automatic updates (phones, computers) will adjust by themselves, while manual clocks and car clocks need to be set.
