About 700 Million From the World Bank Until 2028: What Dimitrieska-Kochoska Discussed in Bangkok and Why Faster Implementation Is the Message
At the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok, the finance minister met the Bank’s regional vice president for Europe and Central Asia; the 2024–2028 framework brings about 700 million.
Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, at the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok, spoke with Antonella Bassani, the World Bank’s regional vice president for Europe and Central Asia, Alfonso García Mora, vice president of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Bank’s executive director for the constituency that includes Macedonia. National Bank Governor Trajko Slaveski held separate meetings. The topic was the partnership under the 2024–2028 Partnership Framework, which according to the statement brings financial and technical support of about 700 million US dollars.
The figure needs attention: the Ministry cites it in dollars, while the World Bank’s January 2024 release spoke of a lending envelope of approximately 700 million euros over five years, plus advisory and technical assistance. The currency differs between sources. The strategy’s priorities are jobs and growth, competitiveness, human capital, regional connectivity and the EU path, public finances and the energy transition, noting that about 70% of energy comes from coal and oil. In January 2024 the Bank also approved 27.5 million euros for social services and 31 million euros of additional financing for the Corridor 8 road project from Skopje to Deve Bair.
The message from Bangkok is practical: faster implementation and more efficient use of available funds. The minister said the Government remains “committed to implementing reforms,” and Bank representatives confirmed readiness for further financial and expert support. What is missing is a breakdown by project and by year: the published information does not say how much of the money has already been used. The National Bank added that the Bank supports a national instant payments system, and Slaveski said that one year after joining SEPA it has become an important channel for euro payments.
