Interior Ministry Searches More Than 40 Locations Nationwide: Drugs, Weapons, Cash and Machetes Seized
According to unofficial information, the Criminal Police have been carrying out searches at more than 40 locations for a second day; the Interior Ministry said it is a coordinated action against drug and weapons crime.
The Criminal Police of the Interior Ministry (MVR), together with all internal affairs sectors and the dog unit, on October 16 and 17 carried out searches at more than 40 locations across the country, according to unofficial information carried by several media. Reported seized items are drugs, weapons, cash, machetes and other items suspected of coming from criminal offenses. Quantities and the number of weapons have not been published.
The Ministry officially said a coordinated police action is under way in the country, aimed at fighting drug- and weapons-related crime, described as a continuation of the coordinated work of the Ministry’s units. The first reports name no cities and no names or numbers of people dealt with, so assessments of the action’s scale are for now preliminary.
According to Sitel, nine people were arrested in Skopje within two days in a separate investigation, with marijuana and a white powdery substance found; the suspects are aged 19 to 46. Sitel also says that in an earlier action, together with Interpol and under the name “Tiger X,” 27 weapons, 600 rounds of ammunition and 10 mine-explosive devices were found. It is not clear whether the two actions are linked, so they are reported separately.
The reports do not say how many locations were searched, how many people were deprived of liberty or what exactly was seized, so the full picture will become clearer after the Ministry’s official announcement. Until a court decision, everyone is presumed innocent, and data from unofficial sources should be read as preliminary.
