Mickoski and Deutsche Telekom Discuss New Investments in Bonn With No Sums Announced: €1.19 Billion So Far in Makedonski Telekom

The meeting is the government’s first official visit to Deutsche Telekom, but there are no new agreements. What is confirmed and what are only talks.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, with a government delegation, met on November 2 in Bonn with the management of Deutsche Telekom: CEO Timotheus Hoettges and Dominik Leroy, the board member responsible for Europe. According to Racin, it is the government’s first official visit to Deutsche Telekom. The same day Mickoski also talked with the German Chamber of Commerce in Duesseldorf. No sums, agreements or deadlines have been published, so we separate what is confirmed from what is only announced.

What is confirmed. The meeting in Bonn took place, and its aim was to strengthen dialogue between the two largest shareholders in Makedonski Telekom and to continue cooperation on digital transformation. The talks covered European competitiveness, security and digital sovereignty. Deutsche Telekom presented its capabilities in cloud technology, artificial intelligence, industrial artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Hoettges said the company has been present on the Macedonian market for more than two decades and is ready to continue with the government.

What is announced. According to 360 stepeni, Mickoski said the talks covered additional Deutsche Telekom investments on the Macedonian telecom market, as well as possible investments in health, smart technology and other sectors. Which specific projects, how large the sums and by when has not been said. The same sources report no new agreement.

What has already been done. According to Racin, Deutsche Telekom has been present in North Macedonia for more than 25 years through Makedonski Telekom, and investments in infrastructure and new technologies exceed €1.19 billion. The company has the country’s largest optical network, 5G coverage of 97.9 percent and recently launched the first 5G+ network. In 2025 a memorandum of understanding was signed between Deutsche Telekom and the government, signed by Goran Markovikj, CEO of Makedonski Telekom, and Digital Transformation Minister Stefan Andonovski.

How much €1.19 billion is. Divided over 25 years it is about €48 million a year. At 61.5 denars per euro, it is about 73 billion denars, or about 6.6 percent of the country’s 2025 nominal GDP of 1,105 billion denars (our calculation). It is a sum over many years, not a one-off investment.

What is missing. There is no public information on whether Deutsche Telekom plans to enter health or industry, with whom it would cooperate, or whether it would happen through Makedonski Telekom or a separate company. It is unclear how many jobs the new investments would bring, or whether they concern the technological-industrial development zones. The statement about GDP growth is the prime minister’s, not an estimate by an independent institution.

What to follow. The visit continues on November 3. The next concrete step would be a signed agreement or an announced project with a sum and deadline. Until then the meetings are an indicator of intent, not of investment.
