Hour-Long Waits at Bogorodica Border Crossing as Summer Season Winds Down
Heavier traffic is reported at multiple border crossings as tourists and diaspora members head home at the end of the summer travel season.
Heavier traffic and longer waits are being reported today at the Bogorodica border crossing, where drivers exiting Macedonia toward Greece are waiting around an hour. According to the Auto-Moto Association of Macedonia (AMSM), similar delays are being seen at some other border crossings with neighboring countries as well.
The increased traffic coincides with the tail end of the summer season, as large numbers of residents — including tourists and diaspora members who spent part of the summer in the country — simultaneously head south toward vacation destinations or return to their places of residence abroad.
Advice for Travelers
AMSM recommends travelers plan for extra time at the crossing, particularly during afternoon and evening hours when traffic is traditionally heaviest. The organization regularly monitors conditions at border crossings and publishes updated information through its channels, so travelers can choose a less congested crossing in advance where possible.
With the end of the August seasonal peak approaching, traffic is expected to gradually normalize over the coming weeks.
