Macedonia-Serbia Gas Pipeline Contract Signed, Worth €29.4 Million
The 22.4km Macedonian section will be built by Rapid Bild, with completion expected by Q4 2028, further diversifying the country's gas supply routes.
A contract for the design and construction of the Macedonia-Serbia interconnector gas pipeline, worth €29.4 million, was signed today in Skopje. The agreement was signed by Nedim Rama, director of state company NOMAGAS, and Toni Karanfilovski, director of contractor "Rapid Bild," in the presence of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Energy Minister Sanja Božinovska.
The Macedonian section of the interconnector will be 22.4 kilometers long, with a diameter of 500 millimeters — starting at the "Klečovce" block station and ending at the border with Serbia, near the village of Sopot. The project follows a "turnkey" system under the FIDIC model, covering urban planning, design, construction and securing a permit for use.
Five Auxiliary Facilities and a 2028 Deadline
Alongside the pipeline itself, the project includes five auxiliary facilities — a main interconnector metering station, a reduction station, a block station and two pig-launching/receiving stations. The pipeline's technical capacity is planned at up to 160,000 cubic meters of gas per hour, with bidirectional flow capability. Full completion of the project is expected by the fourth quarter of 2028.
Mickoski described the project as significant not just bilaterally, but in a broader regional and geostrategic context — another step toward connecting Macedonia to multiple natural gas sources and supply routes, complementing already ongoing interconnector projects with Greece and the country's accession to the Vertical Gas Corridor.
