Macedonia Reaches Five Medals at Halfway Point of Mediterranean Games

Two silvers and three bronzes so far, all from wrestling and boxing, as the delegation continues competing across the remaining sports until September 3.

With the Taranto Games now past their midpoint, Macedonia enters the second half with five medals secured — two silvers (Fati Vejseli, Redžep Hajdari) and three bronzes (Ahmad Magomedov, Veronika Konsevič, Alen Rustemovski).

All five medals so far have come from combat sports — wrestling and boxing — continuing a tradition Macedonia has already established in these disciplines. Across the country's four appearances at the Mediterranean Games (Mersin 2013, Tarragona 2018, Oran 2022, and now Taranto), the total medal count now stands at 19, including the three historic gold medals won at Oran 2022.

Football Already Over, Other Sports Continue

The U20 football team has already ended its campaign with just one point earned, after a draw with Tunisia and losses to Turkey and Morocco. But the 130-member delegation continues competing across the remaining sports among the 19 disciplines Macedonia is entered in, including athletics, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics and several other individual sports.

With competition running through September 3, there's still room for more surprises before this generation of Macedonian athletes' final medal tally in Taranto is set.
