Reljić Wins Bronze at World Open Taekwondo Championship in Taiyuan
Days after her Mediterranean Games quarterfinal exit, the young Macedonian taekwondo athlete beat a Brazilian competitor en route to a career-best result.
Milijana Reljić won bronze at the World Open Taekwondo Championship for women, held in the Chinese city of Taiyuan, just days after her Mediterranean Games campaign in Taranto ended with a quarterfinal exit.
In the -62kg category, competing against 43 fighters from around the world, the young Macedonian taekwondo athlete achieved one of the most significant results of her career so far. Her path to bronze included an impressive win over a Brazilian opponent, in a bout where, according to her coaching staff, the officiating at one point appeared to favor the host nation's competitor.
Confirmation of Rising Talent
Reljić has been emerging as one of the biggest prospects in Macedonian Olympic taekwondo for several seasons now, and the Taiyuan bronze comes as a logical continuation of her steady rise on the international stage. The World Open Championship draws top-ranked competitors, which adds further weight to the medal.
With this success, Reljić joins a growing list of young Macedonian athletes who, over recent weeks, have repeatedly confirmed the strength of the country's combat sports, both continentally and on the world stage.
