Transport Carriers Protest Outside EU Delegation in Skopje
'Makam-trans' organized the demonstration, highlighting long-standing frustrations over operating conditions for domestic carriers.
The domestic transport association "Makam-trans" held a protest today in front of the European Union Delegation headquarters in Skopje, from noon to 2 PM, expressing frustration over the conditions domestic carriers operate under.
Macedonia's transport sector has faced a similar set of challenges for years — competition from carriers in neighboring countries with lower operating costs, rising fuel and maintenance prices, and bureaucratic obstacles for international transport toward EU countries.
A Symbolic Location for the Protest
Choosing the EU Delegation specifically as the protest location isn't incidental — carriers likely want their demands to gain attention at the European level too, given that some of the challenges they face stem directly from regulations and standards tied to the European integration process.
Protest organizers hadn't disclosed a specific list of demands ahead of the event, and it remains to be seen whether the protest will result in a concrete response from relevant institutions.
