TOARILUC Director Performs Weekend Surgeries to Cut Waiting List

Igor Merdžanoski personally performed two operations on Sunday as medical teams worked outside regular hours.

The director of Skopje's TOARILUC hospital, Igor Merdžanoski, announced that the clinic's medical teams are continuing surgeries through the weekend, as part of efforts to reduce the patient waiting list.

In a social media post, Merdžanoski said he personally performed two surgeries on Sunday, joining other teams who also worked outside their regular schedule to speed up treatment for patients waiting in line.

Leading by Example

The director personally taking part in weekend surgeries sends a signal of commitment from leadership toward tackling one of domestic healthcare's most persistent problems — long waiting lists for certain types of procedures, which have remained a challenge for both patients and the health system as a whole for years.

Such extraordinary efforts, while positive as a short-term measure, are usually followed by questions about long-term sustainability — whether institutions have enough capacity and staff to permanently reduce the lists, or whether a broader systemic solution is needed.
