Fuel VAT Reverts to 18% at Midnight — How Much More Will North Macedonians Pay at the Pump
The temporary 10% rate applied from September 15 to 28; the government has not yet announced whether it will be extended.
The temporary measure that cut VAT on fuel from 18% to 10% expires at midnight tonight, after which the tax automatically reverts to the standard rate unless the government issues a new decision to extend it.
The measure, introduced on September 13, prevented an expected rise in diesel and petrol prices despite volatility on the global oil market, saving consumers roughly 2 denars per liter. According to the latest figures, diesel was selling at 104.5 denars and Eurosuper BS-95 at 99 denars per liter.
Whether the reduced rate will continue past September 28 depends on a new government decision, which had not been announced at the time of publication. Similar temporary VAT cuts on fuel have already been applied in several European countries in response to volatility in petroleum product markets.
