"The Word Is a Profession, the Book Is a Mission": The Kratovo Teacher Turning Literature Into Humanitarian Aid
Professor Radica Taskova mentors student authors, and her humanitarian project "When Hearts Write Together" gathered 90 writers whose work supports children without parents and vulnerable families.
Radica Taskova, a teacher of Macedonian language and literature from Kratovo, has for years combined her teaching vocation with a broader literary mission — working as an author, literary reviewer, editor and proofreader for numerous publications, devoted to language, books and young writers.
Alongside her classroom work, Taskova mentors students from Kratovo and the surrounding area, giving them the chance to see their poems and literary work published — a step she says significantly boosts young people's self-confidence and builds a lasting love for language and literature. As an author, she published the poetry collection "Scars That Speak," which uses verse to explore themes of pain, silence, dignity and domestic violence.
Her relationship with books gained a humanitarian dimension through the project "When Hearts Write Together," which brought together 90 authors and 90 stories, with proceeds from the publication going to support children without parents and socially vulnerable families. "For her, the word is a profession, the book is a mission, and every new author is a new voice that deserves to be heard," colleagues say of her contribution to the community's cultural life.
