A Decade of Connecting With the Homeland: Jubilee Edition of 'Birthright Macedonia' Concludes
Eight young people of Macedonian descent completed a three-week journey across the country as part of the United Macedonian Diaspora's 10th, jubilee edition of the 'Birthright Macedonia' program.
The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) has wrapped up the 10th, jubilee season of its "Rodum od Makedonija" (Birthright Macedonia) program, in which eight young people of Macedonian descent spent three weeks traveling across their ancestral homeland. Participants came from several countries where the Macedonian diaspora lives.
As part of the program, the young participants completed professional internships at companies and institutions — including Kostal Macedonia and the Ohrid Museum — combined with cultural experiences: visits to UNESCO-protected sites and historical monuments, and participation in traditional events such as the Galichnik Wedding.
Since its founding, the program has brought together more than 70 young people of Macedonian descent from countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Bosnia, New Zealand, Germany and Hungary. According to UMD, the goal is for diaspora youth to strengthen their ties to the homeland through professional internships, cultural experiences and direct meetings with prominent figures, institutions and organizations across the country.
