Green Diesel on a Card: Distribution Starts This Week, Support Increased
Minister Serafimovski announced that green diesel cards for farmers begin distribution this week, with increased support — but the question of exactly how many liters and for whom remains key to the farmer's autumn bill.
Agriculture Minister Venko Serafimovski announced that distribution of green diesel cards for farmers begins this week, with increased support compared with previous years. The measure aims to give farmers access to cheaper fuel for fieldwork, particularly during the autumn harvest period and preparation for the new season.
The announcement comes alongside criticism from the opposition — SDSM has previously argued that "the farmer pays more and gets nothing," accusing the government of focusing on data center and antimony mining projects instead of agriculture. Serafimovski, for his part, specifically stressed that fuel support should arrive on time — ideally in September, ahead of the key autumn fieldwork, an issue previously flagged as a problem in years when the cards were delayed.
The key questions left unanswered in the public announcements are: the exact number of liters per hectare or per farmer, the validity period of the cards, and whether the increased support actually covers the higher fuel costs compared with previous seasons. Without these details, the announcement remains more of a general message of "care" than a concrete calculation a farmer can factor into their autumn budget.
