Two Years Apart on One Pipeline: Which Deadline Is Real for the Skopje-Vranje Gas Link, 2027 or 2028

The gas pipeline from Skopje to Vranje is being built with a deadline at the end of 2028 and a budget of €29.4 million, but some announcements mention 2027 — a gap that comes from a separate, unrelated project at the border with Greece.

Construction company "Rapid Bild" received a four-year deadline to complete the Skopje-Vranje gas pipeline, 22.4 kilometers long, with a total contract value of €29.4 million. According to the official timeline, the pipeline should be finished by the end of 2028, connecting to Serbia's network via Vranje.

In public discourse, however, statements circulate mentioning 2027 as the deadline for "gas in Macedonia" — a gap of one to two years from the official plan for the Skopje-Vranje project. Research shows this actually comes from a different, separate project: the gas interconnector with Greece, which is in its final phase and expected to be ready in the first half of 2027.

These are two different pipelines with two different borders and two different deadlines, which in public communication often get merged into one "gas this year or next." For citizens and businesses waiting for access to natural gas, the gap between 2027 and 2028 isn't a detail — it's an entire year of investment planning, while authorities have little interest in clarifying the difference between the Greek interconnector and the trunk line toward Serbia.
