Prilep Hosts "Silno Svetnal Den" Spectacle for 35 Years of Independence
The touring musical-theatrical show marking 35 years of Macedonian independence brings over 100 performers to Prilep today, continuing toward a September 4 finale in Skopje.
Prilep is hosting the musical-theatrical spectacle "Silno Svetnal Den" ("A Brightly Lit Day") today, a caravan that has been touring the country for two weeks to mark 35 years of Macedonian independence. More than 100 Macedonian artists are performing on "Metodija Andonov-Čento" square.
The project, conceived and led by Igor Džambazov, launched on August 9 in Ohrid at the "Biljanini Izvori" stadium, where more than 30 performers told the story of three and a half decades of independence through music, theater, poetry and contemporary dance. From there the caravan passed through Bitola (August 11), Veles (August 12), Kruševo (August 16) and Kumanovo (August 17) before arriving in Prilep today.
More Than Just Another Concert
Rather than a classic jubilee celebration of speeches and anthems, "Silno Svetnal Den" also poses harder questions — what has the country achieved in these 35 years, what was inherited, where did things go wrong, what is there to be proud of, and what kind of country is being left to the generations still to come. According to organizers, it's the young performers carrying the story forward through the show.
Admission is free throughout, and after Prilep the caravan continues on toward the remaining stops of its planned 11 cities, ahead of a finale set for September 4 on Skopje's main square — right before the official holiday on September 8.
