Construction Begins on Skopje-Blace Highway Section

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski attended a groundbreaking ceremony today for the Skopje-Blace highway section, officially marking the start of construction on this long-announced project.
The 10.5-kilometer section will cost around €222 million, with domestic construction company "Granit AD Skopje" as contractor. The project is part of a broader plan to connect Skopje to the Blace border crossing toward Kosovo via a modern highway, replacing the existing, narrower road.
Part of a Broader Construction Push
Skopje-Blace is just one of six highway sections currently at various stages of construction across the country — alongside it, work continues on the Kičevo-Ohrid, Prilep-Bitola, Tetovo-Gostivar, Gostivar-Bukojčani, and Bukojčani-Kičevo sections. The government has repeatedly pointed to this simultaneous activity across multiple construction sites as evidence of an accelerated pace of infrastructure investment.
With today's step, Skopje-Blace officially moves from the announcement phase into actual construction — time will tell whether the pace of execution lives up to the ambitious timeline.
