17 Fires Recorded Nationwide, Seven Still Active
The Army's air wing continues supporting ground crews, as last night's storm brought partial relief to firefighting efforts.
Over the past 24 hours, a total of 17 open-air fires were recorded across Macedonia, seven of them still active, two under control, and eight fully extinguished, the latest firefighting service data shows.
The number of active fires remains significant even after several weeks of continuous firefighting, though it's noticeably down compared to the peak of the crisis in previous weeks, when more than 30 new hot spots were being recorded daily. The Army's air wing was again deployed to help extinguish some of the active fires, providing additional aerial support to ground crews.
The Storm Brought Partial Relief
Last night's storm, which caused water-supply problems in Štip, also brought some relief in the fight against fires in affected regions — lower temperatures and rainfall typically make it harder for flames to spread further, at least temporarily.
Firefighting services continue closely monitoring the situation, noting that the high-risk fire season isn't fully over yet, despite early signs of a gradual cooldown.
