Mickoski in New York, But With No Meeting Planned With the Bulgarian Delegation
The PM: we don't have such a meeting planned for now. The focus is on the neighbourhood and Gulf countries.
Although already in New York for the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said earlier in the week that no meeting with the Bulgarian delegation is currently planned. "As for a meeting with the Bulgarian delegation, at this point we don't have one planned," he said before departing, adding that the focus is on the neighbourhood and possible bilateral meetings with Gulf countries.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, a meeting of Western Balkan leaders is usually organised, typically by the EU delegation. Asked about Bulgaria's conditions for constitutional change and Macedonia's position on guarantees, Mickoski repeated that the government "does not change positions instantly or overnight," calling it a long process.
The absence of a planned meeting with Sofia, at a moment when the constitutional dispute sits at the centre of domestic debate, is not news in itself — but it leaves open the question of whether the lack of direct high-level dialogue is contributing to the standoff, or is simply a result of a packed New York calendar.
