Former Football Federation President Gjorgjioski Released From Custody on Property Bail

Ilčo Gjorgjioski, until recently head of Macedonia's Football Federation, is no longer behind bars — Skopje's Basic Criminal Court accepted bail secured with real estate instead of cash.

Ilčo Gjorgjioski, until recently the head of Macedonia's Football Federation, has left pre-trial detention after Skopje's Basic Criminal Court accepted his bail offer — this time secured with real estate rather than cash.

The case against Gjorgjioski has dragged on for months and forms part of a broader investigation into alleged financial irregularities in how the federation was run. The court had twice previously rejected his release, but this time the defense's arguments held up.

Released, Not Off the Hook

Getting out of detention doesn't mean the case is over — the measures changed, not the charges. Gjorgjioski remains a party to the proceedings, and upcoming hearings will show whether the prosecution's evidence holds up in court.

Football circles are watching the case closely — less because of the man himself, more because of a question many have been asking for a while: how deep do the financial irregularities in the federation's structures actually run, and will this process produce real answers.
