€195 Million From the World Bank and EIB for Hospitals in Tetovo, Shtip and Kichevo: What Is Agreed and What Still Awaits Signature?

Klekovski said in Parliament on October 14 that he hopes an arrangement for a €195 million loan to complete three hospitals will be concluded by the end of the year.

Health Minister Sašo Klekovski, at a parliamentary session on October 14, answering questions from opposition MPs, said implementation of the hospital projects in Tetovo, Shtip and Kichevo should begin by the end of the year and that €195 million is expected to complete them. The money is planned as a loan the Ministry is arranging with the World Bank and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

These are completions of existing projects at the Clinical Hospital Shtip, the Clinical Hospital Tetovo and the General Hospital Kichevo. No split by hospital has been published, nor how the loan is structured or how much comes from each lender. Klekovski visited the Tetovo hospital in late July together with a World Bank and EIB mission, and a second mission took place around October 4. “I hope that by the end of the year the Government will have concluded the arrangement,” he said. For Tetovo he added that the long-running problem of “contracts for work” has been resolved by converting them into regular employment.

In the same session the minister promised a written answer on the mammography situation in Tetovo. What matters for the projects is whether the arrangement is really concluded by the end of the year, which for now is a hope, not an agreement.
