Diesel prices dropped 6.5 denars per liter as of midnight last night, while gasoline rose by one denar, the Energy Regulatory Commission decided — the latest correction in the now-familiar pattern of monthly fuel price adjustments.
Such opposing movements — diesel falling while gasoline rises — aren't unusual, since prices for the two fuel types are regulated under separate formulas tied to movements on global oil and petroleum product markets, which don't always move in the same direction.
Relief for the Transport Sector
The drop in diesel prices comes as welcome relief for carriers and farmers, whose operating costs depend heavily on this fuel — particularly significant given the recent protest by transport association "Makam-trans" outside the EU Delegation, where operating costs were among the main points of frustration.
Unlike diesel, drivers of gasoline-powered vehicles will feel a small but real increase at their next fill-up.
