Kosara Mitić's Film '17' Named Macedonia's Oscar Candidate

The feature film "17," directed by Kosara Mitić, has been selected as Macedonia's candidate for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The decision was made by the national candidate selection committee at the Macedonian Film Workers' Association, whose composition is approved by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Two feature films were submitted for consideration this year — "Skateboarding Is Not for Girls" by Dina Duma and "17" by Kosara Mitić, produced by "Black Cat Production." The film had its world premiere in the "Perspectives" program at the 76th Berlin Film Festival and has since won 11 international awards, including the "Golden Mimosa" for Best Director at the Herceg Novi Film Festival.

"An Enormous Professional Joy"

"The film's international recognition and the journey from its Berlinale premiere all the way to being chosen as Macedonia's Oscar candidate is an enormous professional joy, and at the same time confirmation that this intimate story manages to reach audiences," director Mitić said of the nomination. Producer Tomi Salkovski, for his part, said it's both a great honor and a serious responsibility to be Macedonia's Oscar entry.

The cast includes Eva Kostić, Martina Danilovska, Eva Stojčevska, Petar Manić, Irena Dimeska and others. The Oscar shortlist will be announced December 15, with official nominations following on January 21, 2027.
