Kumanovo Man Detained Over Death Threats Against Mickoski: "He Would Slaughter Me in the Square"
Prosecutors sought and won eight days of detention for a 39-year-old man who threatened the PM on social media.
The Basic Public Prosecution in Kumanovo has filed charges against a 39-year-old resident of the village of Cherkezi on suspicion of "endangering security" under Article 144(5) of the Criminal Code, after he threatened Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on social media.
According to the complaint, on 11 September the suspect left a threatening comment on a post on the prime minister's profile. A pre-trial judge ordered eight days of detention.
Mickoski, answering a reporter's question today at the Tabanovce event, spoke publicly about the case for the first time and disclosed part of what was said. "I only found out about the threats yesterday myself — that I was called a pig and that he would slaughter me in the square, and there were curses aimed at me and my family," the prime minister said, adding that he is under protection and that institutions are acting within their powers.
In seeking detention, prosecutors cited flight risk and the suspect's prior conduct, describing him as a "conflict-prone" individual with a history of violent offences — including assault and usury — plus multiple public-order infractions. They judged there was a real risk his outbursts could escalate into more serious, life-threatening acts.
