North Macedonia Returns to Eurovision in 2027, in Burgas, After Four Missed Editions
MRT promises a transparent selection process after a five-year gap — Macedonia is set for Burgas in 2027.
North Macedonia is officially returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after missing four editions in a row. The country will have its own entrant for the first time since 2022, at the 71st edition of the contest, to be held in the Bulgarian coastal city of Burgas.
MRT director Zoran Ristoski announced a full break with the past practice of choosing entries "behind closed doors." Instead, the public broadcaster is promising a transparent model in which audiences can clearly see how and why the representative and song were chosen.
The team that will lead the Macedonian delegation in Burgas has already been formed, headed by Jana Burcheska and Aleksandra Jovanovska, longtime collaborators well known on the Eurovision scene.
Macedonia last competed in 2022 in Turin, where Andrea Kovachevska's song "Circles" placed 11th in the second semi-final — one spot short of the final. The country then skipped the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 editions, largely for financial reasons.
Burgas won hosting rights after Bulgaria took its first Eurovision title with DARA's "Bangaranga" at Eurovision 2026. The contest is set for May 2027, with semi-finals on 11 and 13 May and the grand final on 15 May at Arena Burgas. Who will represent Macedonia has yet to be decided.
