DFC Shows Interest in Financing "Chebren" and "Galishte" — No Agreement Signed Yet
Mickoski: a communication channel has been set up with the US development corporation. No firm figure yet.
The government is in talks with the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) over possible financing for the "Chebren" and "Galishte" hydropower projects, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said in an interview with MIA from Washington. "Our goal as a government is to secure financing for the project. There is interest on their side, the project was presented, we established a communication channel between the government and DFC, and that is good," he said.
Mickoski added that the meeting with DFC's Caroline Vik, whose institution has a total financial portfolio of about $200 billion, also covered other infrastructure, energy and data investments, as well as possible private US investment.
So far, statements speak of "interest," a "presented project" and an "established communication channel" — not a signed agreement or a firm financing figure for Chebren and Galishte. The same projects were previously presented in Davos, where, according to Mickoski, they drew investor attention.
The "Chebren" and "Galishte" projects have featured in government plans for hydropower capacity on the Crna River for years. A specific investor and financing structure have not yet been officially announced.
