"Safe City" Expands to Ohrid Next, Then Strumica and Štip — Bitola by Early 2027
Toshkovski: over 30 percent of crime is traffic-related. The goal is full nationwide coverage.
The "Safe City" system is already operating in Skopje, Kumanovo, Tetovo, and the Veles police area — Kavadarci, Negotino, Demir Kapija and Veles itself. Next in line is the Ohrid police area, covering Ohrid, Struga, Kičevo and surrounding settlements, Interior Minister Pance Toshkovski announced.
"The next police administration where it will be implemented is Ohrid. Then Strumica and Štip follow, and finally I hope that within this year, or in January 2027, we will implement it in the Bitola area too," Toshkovski said, appearing on MRT's main news programme.
The minister stressed that more than 30 percent of crime is traffic-related, and the system's goal is to reduce road deaths through cameras and automated enforcement. The biggest technical challenge, he said, is network connectivity to the central system.
Whether the final phase wraps up by the end of 2026 or in early 2027, the goal remains full nationwide coverage.
