"We Don't Want an Easier Path, We Want One Governed by Rules" — North Macedonia PM Mickoski Addresses UN General Assembly
The prime minister called on the EU to apply its own rules consistently and offer predictability on enlargement, saying small states deserve the same dignity as major powers.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski addressed the United Nations General Assembly, saying North Macedonia "does not seek an easier path" toward Euro-Atlantic integration, but one governed by clear rules, where standards remain standards.
He noted the country has repeatedly given up things that are naturally its own, making compromises and concessions — often at the cost of its own dignity and justice. He said this is also a matter of Europe's own credibility.
Mickoski called on the European Union to apply its own rules as consistently as it demands of smaller candidate countries. He added that NATO membership, the partnership with the United States, and full EU membership are all part of a clear geopolitical orientation based on democracy, security and the rule of law, stressing that a small state has the same right to dignity and voice as major powers.
