Skopje Introduces Digital Student Transit Pass — Your Phone Becomes the Ticket
Free-transport status will be verified automatically, with a QR code replacing the paper card and long waits at ticket windows.
Skopje's public transport company JSP is introducing a digital transit card for students entitled to free public transport, aiming to eliminate the need for a physical card and long waits at ticket counters.
The card is activated through the SkopjeBus app, where students verify their identity using their university email address. Instead of a paper document, each ride will be validated using a QR code displayed directly on the student's phone. The project is the result of cooperation between JSP, the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FINKI), and the Ss. Cyril and Methodius and Mother Teresa universities.
An exact launch date has not yet been announced — JSP says students will be notified in due course about how to activate the card and when the new system goes live.
