Petrol gets 5 denars cheaper from midnight: Eurosuper 95 is 91, 98 is 93 denars, diesel stays at 99
The RKE says reference prices of petrol fell 8.12 percent while diesel rose 0.404 percent, so the gap between the two fuels is growing.
The Regulatory Commission for Energy (RKE) set new maximum retail fuel prices, valid from 00:01 on October 27. Eurosuper BS-95 gets 5 denars cheaper and costs 91 denars per liter, Eurosuper BS-98 also gets 5 denars cheaper and costs 93 denars per liter, while Eurodiesel stays unchanged at 99 denars per liter. Dealers may also sell below these prices.
Extra light heating oil gets 0.5 denars cheaper and costs 110 denars per liter, while fuel oil gets 0.694 denars more expensive and costs 54.273 denars per kilogram. The previous prices of the petrols, 96 and 98 denars, are calculated from the published reductions and are not stated directly in Trn's report.
Why did prices change? According to the RKE, average retail prices of petroleum derivatives fell 1.89 percent compared with the October 19 decision. Reference prices of petrol on the world market in the calculation period fell by an average of 8.12 percent, while diesel rose 0.404 percent. That explains why petrol gets cheaper and diesel does not.
The calculation also applies the reduced VAT rate of 10 percent for diesel and a reduced excise of four denars per liter on both petrols and diesel. These are the measures the government introduced to ease price pressure, and they remain in force in this calculation.
What does it mean for drivers? The gap between diesel and petrol is now 8 denars per liter for Eurosuper 95 (99 against 91), which is larger than before when it was 3 denars (99 against 96). That puts drivers of diesel cars and transport in a different position, and they are usually the most sensitive to the fuel price.
What can we expect? The next RKE decision will depend on the movement of world quotations in the new calculation period. Brent fell to 114.51 dollars on October 26 on hopes of US-Iran de-escalation, but analysts warn the respite may be temporary. I did not find a date for the next calculation in the checked reports.
What is not known? It is not known whether petrol will keep getting cheaper, or when diesel could fall. It is also not known whether the government will extend the reduced VAT rate and excise. It is also unclear how the crisis on world diesel markets should be read.
What does it mean? Petrol is 5 denars cheaper, diesel stays at 99. That is good news for petrol drivers, but not for diesel users, whose price depends on other market movements.
