Three Golds, Five Medals Total: North Macedonia's Junior Kickboxers Conquer the World Championship in Lido di Jesolo
The five-member delegation exceeded even the coaching staff's most optimistic expectations, with the federation president saying no other federation has ever brought home three golds from a single world championship.
Three Macedonian junior kickboxers — Gligor Nikolov, Kalin Banoski and Tomi Andonov — won gold medals at the World Junior Kickboxing Championship held in Lido di Jesolo, Italy. Petar Lozanovski and Dragica Gligora added bronze medals for the country.
The five-member North Macedonian delegation returned home with five medals in total, exceeding even the most optimistic expectations of the coaching staff, who had predicted four medals ahead of the tournament.
Kickboxing federation president Dejan Mitrovski-Urko said he is convinced "no federation has ever before brought home three gold medals from a single world championship." Notably, the athletes financed their own participation in the tournament, making the achievement all the more significant given the financial challenges they had to overcome to compete at the international level.
