Putin Holds Three-Hour Talks With Witkoff and Kushner on Ukraine

A temporary pause on strikes against Kyiv followed the Moscow talks, as envoys head to the Ukrainian capital to continue negotiations.

US President's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held roughly three-hour talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as part of mediated peace negotiations over Ukraine. Putin described the situation as "not simple, difficult."

Following the talks, a temporary pause on strikes against Kyiv was introduced, with a reciprocal pause on Moscow, while the envoys travel to the Ukrainian capital on Sunday to continue diplomatic activity.

A Fragile Moment of Diplomatic Pause

Temporary pauses in fighting, often called "humanitarian windows" in diplomatic jargon, have historically served both as space for negotiation and as an opportunity for military forces to regroup before fighting resumes. Whether this pause turns into something more lasting or just a brief respite remains to be seen.

The continuation of talks in Kyiv on Sunday will show whether the Ukrainian side is willing to accept a framework similar to the one discussed in Moscow, or will seek significant changes before any further step.
