Skopje Hosted "Eurock 2026" — 600 Engineers and Researchers From Around the World

The international scientific conference "Eurock 2026," dedicated to risk management in rock engineering, was held from 15 to 19 September at the Aleksandar Palace hotel in Skopje, drawing around 600 professors, researchers and engineers from around the world.

The conference, organised by the Macedonian Geotechnical Association as a regional symposium of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM), came to Skopje after Skopje's Faculty of Civil Engineering won first place for innovation at the 2023 Salzburg gathering.

Deputy PM and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski, addressing the event, said the government is running an infrastructure investment cycle worth several billion euros for roads and railways, in which engineering expertise plays a key role. "Macedonia has a strategic position in the Balkans, where corridors 8 and 10 intersect, making it a central transit country for European transport," Nikoloski said.

Hosting a conference of this scale is seen as recognition for Macedonia's engineering and scientific community, with potential for future cooperation on concrete infrastructure projects.
