Police Raid 32 Sites in Skopje Over Forged Driving Licences, Including Interior Ministry Offices
The investigation covers fake truck and bus licences; searches hit private homes, offices and premises linked to police headquarters.
Police and the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje carried out searches at 32 locations across the city yesterday — homes, offices, and, notably, premises tied to the Interior Ministry itself. The operation targets a scheme to forge category C and D driving licences, the credentials required to operate trucks and buses.
"Based on orders from a pre-trial judge, obtained at the request of a public prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje, searches are being carried out today at 32 locations in Skopje, covering individuals, homes and official premises within the Interior Ministry," the prosecution said in a statement, adding that further steps were being taken to secure evidence of document forgery.
According to unofficial information reported by several outlets, roughly 27 people from Skopje are implicated — drivers who allegedly claimed to have lost a standard car licence, then had truck or bus categories added during reissue without ever passing the required tests. Some have reportedly already been detained, though neither police nor prosecutors have confirmed numbers.
A Question Bigger Than One Raid
What makes the case significant isn't the number of addresses searched. A driving licence is a gateway — into traffic, into a job behind the wheel of a heavy vehicle, across a border. If part of the trail genuinely leads to an official inside the agency that issues these documents, the story stops being routine crime reporting and becomes a question about trust in the system itself.
Prosecutors have not named any suspects or said how many licences were issued this way. The operation, police say, is still ongoing.
